Lewes Floods 25th Anniversary Report
2025 marked the 25th anniversary of the October 2000 floods that devastated Lewes and surrounding areas.
Twenty-five years on in autumn 2025, Lewes Town Council supported a team of partners to bring together residents, businesses and professionals to remember and learn from those momentous events.
Through a two-day event at Lewes Town Hall – one day for professionals and one for the public – plus a residents’ survey, Friends of Lewes’ touring Lewes Floods exhibition and other satellite events, more than 1,200 people shared memories, insights and suggestions for how Lewes should tackle the risk of flooding now.
A report has now been published distilling the insights and ideas that came out of those events – identifying the actions and approaches that local people and flood professionals would like to see to address flood risk across Lewes.
