Valuing Community Mapper Report

This ‘value intelligence report’ attempts to put a monetary value on the ‘invisible value’ of engaging communities and nature. It is not yet an exact science (still in beta version) but looks from a number of lenses to find outcomes that do have a measurable value to funders, local authorities and decision makers so they can understand the worth to the wider community of a project such as ours – Lewes Climate Hub!

What Valuing Community Mapper say about how the report is made:

The Valuing Community mapper is an AI-enabled tool that presents qualitative value analysis and quantitative measures to facilitate discussion and further monitoring and evaluation, and verification. The quantitative figures are indicative values and to be used as planning estimates, not audited outputs. The team that developed the mapper is using these figures based on the proxy valuations of the calculation input from several pre-existing and well-established value calculations that sit in the backend of the mapper. The next phase is to work with economists, funders, government and other data specialists to find a combination of inputs that suits the needs of different organisations and groups so that the tool can be used for a range of purposes and for baselining, ongoing monitoring and evaluation. We have confidence values specified that state how reliable the financial measure is at present (i.e. a lower value means further work required). “Putting a price on community and nature” is a complex and sometimes contentious topic, so we want to make sure we get these figures right. An alternative might be to reframe as directional ranges (e.g. £X–£Y), not precise figures, which we are still under review. We welcome the input of the testing cohort to contribute to these important discussions. If you would like to know more about the mapper and how to be involved in testing it and to be part of its ongoing journey, please contact
