The National Emergency Briefing: What happens next?

On 27 November, ten of the UK’s leading experts briefed an invited audience of over 1,200 politicians and leaders on the latest implications of the climate and nature crisis for health, food, national security and the economy. The NEB team explains what happens next and how you can help – plus you can view all the expert presentations. 

The climate and nature crisis is a multi-pronged emergency impacting all aspects of British life, from national security to the food supply. The National Emergency Briefing was commissioned to report the latest evidence, make clear what is at stake, and outline actionable solutions.

Our aim is to work with partners and supporters to create a societal tipping point towards genuine emergency action on the climate and nature crisis – action necessary to protect the public and strengthen the UK’s economy and security.

What we’re calling on the government to do

When independent experts set out credible evidence of escalating national risk, those in public office have a responsibility to ensure the public is informed and prepared. So now it’s time to take this message nationwide. We are asking the government to:

  1. Stage a televised emergency briefing to the nation as the first step in a public engagement drive to cut through disinformation
  2. Launch a national emergency response to climate and nature breakdown with the same leadership and determination as shown in World War II and during the Global Financial Crisis
  3. Lead stronger global action. By acting decisively at home, the UK can build the credibility needed to help lead the coordinated global action the world is calling for.

How you can help

Please help take the message heard at the briefing to every politician and to the nation.
