Talk: The Lewes Floods: 25th Anniversary Report

Last year saw the 25th anniversary of the Lewes floods that devastated the town in October 2000. The anniversary included a special exhibition, a day for flood professionals, a residents survey, and a public meeting where local people got to hear from and question an expert panel on what action is need now to prepare for and reduce the risk of flooding in the future.
A report has been written and is now being published bringing together the insights, concerns and ideas from those anniversary events – both from professionals and local residents.
Join Juliet Oxborrow, co-director of Lewes Climate Hub and writer of the report, alongside others on the report steering group as they present the report’s key themes, conclusions and recommendations – addressing issues such as
- Building on the floodplain
- The role of nature in mitigating flood risk
- Improving flood preparedness
- Supporting Lewes residents most at risk.
The afternoon will include discussion on next steps and how preparedness for flood can integrate with preparing for other impacts of climate change.
