Share your expertise to create a new butterfly glade

If you have knowledge of wildflowers or butterflies, community woodland Laughton Greenwood would love your help with a project to bring more butterflies into the woods. Steve Lewis from the Laughton Greenwood team explains.

Do you know about butterflies, or wildflowers? At Laughton Greenwood (just beyond Ringmer) we have an exciting new project to bring new butterflies into the wood.

We have cut down commercial pine trees to open up a butterfly glade, near Roland Wood Butterfly Heathland. Our vision is a glade of wildflowers that will attract a variety of butterflies. Now we need expertise and a small team to make the project work, answering questions such as:

  • What trees should we plant next winter to attract the butterflies?
  • Do we need new plants or wait & see what grows?
  • Do we need to keep deer out of the glade & if so how?

How to get in touch
