Repair Share Eco Fair
Saturday 20 June, 10.30am-3pm, Lewes Town Hall (Corn Exchange), Fisher Street, Lewes, BN7 2QS, FREE
Come and celebrate the joys of repairing and sharing with a whole day at Lewes Town hall dedicated to skills and tips for mending, reusing and reducing waste and cost – as Tony Rowell of Lewes Repair Café explains.
The Repair Café in Lewes at Landport Community Hub has been running for seven years (aside from an enforced break for the Covid-19 pandemic). During that time, it has fixed hundreds of toasters, vacuum cleaners, lamps, and other household appliances, and mended lots of jumpers, coats, bags, and other favourite items that may otherwise have been thrown away.
The service is offered for free, although donations to keep it running are always welcome. Now we are taking it bigger and wider with a Repair Share Eco Fair at Lewes Town Hall on Saturday 20 June.
The Repair Share Eco Fair will include opportunities to have your much-loved items repaired as we do in the normal Repair Café, but also a chance to find out more about other groups working towards the shared goal of promoting repair and reuse, helping to reduce our impact on the environment and reduce waste. That includes Lewes Climate Hub!
Throughout the day there will be workshops and drop-in sessions on practical skills such as sewing on buttons, replacing fuses, darning, and installing Linux on a computer. All activities are free to attend though some will require booking in advance. There will also be a free lunch to encourage people to come and learn more.
We would love to see some new faces at the Repair Share Eco Fair, people who maybe have not yet found our Café at Landport on the first Saturday of every month, or who are new to the idea of repairing rather than binning and buying new items.
