Refugee Week with Lewes Refugee Support Group

Lewes Refugee Support Group is running a variety of events to mark Refugee Week, the theme of which is courage. This year’s Simple Acts of connection are illustrated by Quentin Blake and the first is ‘having a courageous conversation’.

Lewes Refugee Support Group Open Meeting
‘The Migrant Art of Coping’ with Dr Sohail Jannesari Sohail
Thursday 18 June, 7pm, Lewes Town Hall,

Dr Sohail Jannesari Sohail is a Research and Teaching Fellow who specialises in migration and mental health. He will discuss the resilience and coping strategies of people who migrate for safety using participatory well-being activities. The talk is especially pertinent for anyone who volunteers or works face to-face with the refugee community. Sohail’s book ‘The Migrant Art of Coping’ will be available for purchase.

Refugee Week Stall in the Precinct
Saturday 20 June, 10am-12 noon, Lewes Precinct
Lewes Refugee Support Group will be holding a stall in the Lewes precinct on Saturday 20 June to promote Refugee Week and the theme of courage and to have some courageous conversations with local Lewesians! Do drop by to join us!

School work in Refugee Week
Lewes Refugees Support Group will be going into local schools in and around Refugee Week to talk about what it means to be a refugee or person seeking asylum and the courage it takes to journey, survive and thrive away from your homeland. The schools we will be working with are: Hangleton, Hamsey, Southover and Wallands Primary Schools.
