Lewes Refugee Support Group
Saturday 18 April, 11am-3pm, Lewes Climate Hub, 32 High Street, BN7 2LU, FREE
Come and learn about the work of Lewes Refugee Support Group to support the cause of people seeking sanctuary through raising awareness, campaigning and responding to local need.
On Saturday 18 April, Lewes Refugee Support Group will be taking over the Climate Hub to tell Lewes townsfolk and visitors about the work we do. We are a local charity, established in 2002, since when we have been advocating for the fair and dignified treatment of people seeking asylum and refugees in the locality and around the country.
Our three main areas of activity are:
- raising awareness and education
- campaigning
- providing practical support
We will be displaying part of an exhibition originally commissioned by the Lewes Holocaust Memorial Day group. The photographic panels explain some of the reasons people are forced to seek safety here in the UK, and describe what has helped to sustain and comfort them in their quests to re-establish their lives and feel safe and settled.
We will also be providing information about the work we do, and doing some myth busting in the form of a quiz about the treatment that asylum seekers receive on arrival in the UK.
We hope you will come and see us at Lewes Climate Hub and maybe even become a member.
