Great news – a Library of Things is coming to Lewes

What is that you ask? It is a service that allows those who want to borrow an item to undertake a project or have an event to do so without the unnecessary expense of having to buy something that might be used rarely or even only once. The idea is to allow those with limited funds, space or a desire to buy less to be able to carry out projects which might be beyond their means as well as helping the environment be reducing consumption and waste.

It is anticipated that the Lewes Library of Things (LLOT) will open on 1 July subject to any changes due to the pandemic. Things will initially be stored in a garage on Landport Road, Lewes and people will be able to book an item and turn up to collect it and then drop it off once they have finished with it. A booking system is being developed which will be incorporated into a website yet to be launched.

There will be a membership scheme which will allow those on low income to access items at a low cost while those with more resources can become ‘Subscribers’ or ‘Supporters’ and so ensure the project is sustainable financially into the future.

LLOT is a project of Go Local CIC which also runs Lewes Repair Café. We are looking for volunteers so if you would like to get involved, please email LewesLOT@gmail.com or send a message via our facebook page @LewesLibraryOfThings.
