Lewes Cup Amnesty: Hand ‘em in and raise money for Lewes schools!

Throughout July – Lewes schools, Lewes Town Hall and Lewes Climate Hub

For the month of July, everyone is invited to be part of a ‘Reusable Cup Amnesty’ – returning as many of the reusable cups used at Bonfire and other events so they can used again to cut plastic waste. You can drop cups off at your kids’ schools, or at the Town Hall or Lewes Climate Hub – and EVERY cup returned will raise 30p for Lewes schools!

The Lewes Cup amnesty has been set up to increase plastic recycling by getting reusable cups back into circulation.

The rules are simple:
  • All cups must be reusable, NOT disposable;
  • Cups MUST be clean and dry and not damaged;
  • You can return any Lewes Cup, but also any other reusable pint or half pint cup from any other festival or event anywhere in the world;
  • The amnesty runs throughout July – just take them in on any day that month and the school will collect and count them
Students and parents are invited to bring to school as many reusable pint or half-pint cups from home as they can, and the Town Council will pay 30p to schools for every cup they collect. If you don’t have children in school, you can drop cups off at:
  • Lewes Town Hall (go to reception through main doors on High Street)
  • Lewes Climate Hub (Lewes House, 32 High Street)
For each clean, reusable cup dropped off at these locations, 30p will be raised and shared between schools in Lewes.

Remember, cups MUST be clean, dry, and undamaged, or they won’t count. But even if your cups aren’t specifically Lewes Cups, that doesn’t matter, any reusable cup is welcome – in fact, there may even be a prize for the reusable cup that’s travelled the furthest to get to Lewes: the current winner is a cup from Folkestone, 53 miles away.

And do please spread the word about this amnesty. The more cups we can get back the better!
