Hamsey Parish Council endorse the River Ouse Charter

Natasha Padbury, director of Love Our Ouse reports: “We’re delighted that Hamsey Parish Council passed a motion in December to endorse the River Ouse Charter formally. We’re encouraged that Councillors have recognised the river’s fundamental rights, to flow, to be free from pollution, to support native biodiversity and to regenerate.

“They told us (and we wholeheartedly agree!): “By endorsing the River Ouse Charter, Hamsey Parish Council is recognising the river as a living system with fundamental rights, not simply an asset to be managed. The Ouse and its tributaries shape our landscape, our wildlife and our community identity. This endorsement commits us to working in partnership to protect and restore the river’s health for present and future generations.”

“This recent endorsement joins the three motions by Lewes Town Council, Wealden District Council and Lewes District Council and we hope it inspires all parish councils along the Ouse to support the Charter.”
