Workshop: Get crafty to get the Church to rewild

Wednesday 28 May, 12pm-1pm (all ages) and Friday 10 June 1-3pm (over-18s), Lewes Climate Hub, 32 High Street, Lewes, BN7 2LU, FREE (donations welcome)

Join the Climate Hub to knit, craft and model animals to send to the Church of England as part of a nationwide campaign to get the Church to rewild more of its 100,000+ acres of land. There’s a workshop for all ages in May – and one for adults in June.

Lewes Climate Hub is supporting a campaign headed by Chris Packham and campaigning group Wild Card to ask the Church of England to rewild 30% of its 105,000 acres of land by 2030. This is in line with government targets for nature recovery and the wishes of Wildlife Trusts, to tackle the severe level of nature depletion across the country.

To encourage the Church Synod to vote for this, the Wild Card campaign is asking individuals, groups and schools to knit, paint or model animals that could be saved by rewilding – then send them to the Church Commissioners. Read more about the Wild Card campaign here.

Two workshops

To get crafting underway, Lewes Climate Hub is holding two crafting workshops led by local artist Danoush Lachman! The first is family friendly-and free on Wednesday 28 May 12-1 pm in the school holidays.

The second workshop is on Friday 20 June 1-3pm for up to 10 adults (booking will be available on Eventbrite soon).

We also need other clever makers to inspire and teach others so wherever you are please start making little critters for the big post-off in July! You can drop off crafted animals at Lewes Climate Hub 11am-3pm, Wednesday to Saturday.

We want to have an array of wildlife to send by 19 July when the Hub closes for its summer break and take a photo of the mass send-off!
