From struggle to strength: Participatory workshop for women
Sunday 8 March, 10am-12 noon, The Studio at Depot Cinema, Pinwell Road, Lewes, BN7 2JS, £5 – book here.
A women-only participatory workshop facilitated by Dr Manal Ahmed of WeAreTheTree.org
This two-hour workshop brings together women living with different forms of struggle — war and displacement, poverty and insecurity, caring responsibilities and ill health, racism and exclusion.
Through listening, sharing stories, and gentle facilitated activities, we will explore:
- how these experiences shape daily life
- what helps us survive and sustain ourselves
- how women support one another and build peaceful communities
By hearing each other’s stories, we uncover shared themes, strengthen understanding, and imagine practical ways to cope, connect, and create a culture of peace.
After the workshop
From 12pm-2pm you are warmly invited to stay and contribute to:
- collaborative art-making
- gathering statements of peace and community
These contributions will be installed around the walls of The Studio.
(From 12.00–2.00 the Studio is open to the public.)
Grow a Peace Lilly
We will have some potted peace lilies for you to take away and nurture through the summer, with the intention of bringing them back for a photo at the United Nations Day of Peace event on 20 September (time and venue tbc).
