To launch the ‘In a Jam’ transport season at Lewes Climate Hub (Wed 11 June – Sat 21 June), Cycle Lewes and The Depot have arranged a special screening of the award-winning documentary ‘Motherload’.
In this documentary, filmmaker Liz Canning captures a new mother’s quest to understand the increasing isolation and disconnection of modern life, its planetary impact, and how cargo bikes could be an antidote.
Canning cycled everywhere until she had twins in 2008. Motherhood was challenging, but to Liz hauling babies via car felt stifling. She Googled ‘family bike’ and uncovered a global movement of people replacing cars with cargo bikes: long-frame bicycles designed for carrying heavy loads. Liz set out to learn more, and Motherload was born.
After the film there will be a question and answers session led by Lewes’ own champion of electric cargo bikes, Matthew Bird (of Get Bikery) along with some other users of these fun and super-capable two-wheeled machines.
