Community car clubs expand across Lewes district

Residents across Lewes District are being encouraged to take advantage of a growing community car club network, providing access to vehicles without the cost and commitment of car ownership.

Supported by Lewes District Council, Co Wheels operates community car club vehicles in Lewes, Newhaven, Seaford and Peacehaven, offering residents a flexible pay-as-you-go alternative to owning a car. Vehicles are available at:

  • Pinwell Road Car Park, Lewes
  • Phoenix Causeway Car Park, Lewes
  • Little East Street, Lewes
  • Lower Place Car Park, Newhaven
  • Steyning Avenue Car Park, Peacehaven
  • Sutton Road, Seaford

Residents using car clubs can access a vehicle as and when required. Co-Wheels allows members to hire vehicles by the hour or day, with fuel, insurance and maintenance included.

Councillor Emily O’Brien (pictured), Cabinet Member for Climate, Nature and Food Systems, said: “I’m delighted that Co Wheels has expanded its service from Lewes to Peacehaven, Seaford and Newhaven. Whether people need a car for shopping, visiting family or making a longer journey, car clubs provide a practical and affordable alternative to owning a vehicle, while helping to reduce congestion and lower carbon emissions and support more sustainable travel habits.”
