Explore the science, the solutions and the impacts of climate change through a season of talks, displays and interactive sessions at Lewes Climate Hub. Explore what ‘global heating’ is doing to the world, test your own carbon footprint and contribute to our town map of the impacts climate change is having here in Lewes.

Saturday 8 February, 1pm-2.30pm
The Science: What’s creating climate change?
Get to grips with the causes and effects of climate change with Matthew Bird, climate lead at Community Energy South and former cabinet member for sustainability at Lewes District Council. What are greenhouse gases? How are they being generated and what unexpected things are they doing to our planet? What level of global warming is the world now on course for – and are our actions to manage greenhouse gases actually having any impact yet?

Saturday 15 February, 1pm-2.30pm
The Solutions: How do we cut the carbon?
If carbon emissions are the prime cause of global warming, how do we reduce them at the scale and speed now required? Robb Cunningham of Clean Growth UK (above left) and Dougal Fleming (above right) of the Green Business Team explore what actions by governments, businesses and individuals could really make a difference. Plus learn how to measure and improve your own carbon footprint.

The Impact: How is climate change affecting Lewes?
We often view climate change as something in the future. But is it already having an impact here in Lewes? Join our panel of local experts, including John Gower of Friends of Lewes (above left) and Collette Haynes of Ashurst Organics (above right), to explore how higher temperatures, heavier rainfall and other extreme weather are already affecting buildings, waterways, food-growing and wildlife – and what steps we can take to adapt. Plus add your own anecdotal evidence to our Lewes Climate Impacts Map.
