Welcome to our new partner groups
We are delighted to welcome three more inspiring local organisations as partner groups of Lewes Climate Hub. People’s Park for Nature, The Makers Directory and Green United are all Lewes-based initiatives – each doing very different and amazing work to help nature flourish, support local creators and enable young people to have a real say in climate action in the town.
Green United
Green United was created by young people in Lewes, supported by adults, in response to the climate emergency. All primary and secondary schools in Lewes, along with Lewes Old Grammar School, are represented by a Youth Board that meets nine times a year and is supported in various ways by parents, teachers, local councillors, governors, and staff and students from the University of Sussex.
A clothes swap and sponsored cycle ride are held annually. Every few years, Green United hosts a Big Ask in which organisations and individuals in Lewes and beyond are invited to contribute their time, talent (skills), or treasure (financial support) to help to tackle specific climate and environmental concerns identified by young people.
The Makers Directory
The Makers Directory is a free-to-access, hyper-local online directory showcasing Sussex-based artists and makers. It facilitates direct connections between artists, makers and buyers, and encourages collaboration across the creative community. It is a successful, growing, community-led initiative with nearly 600 makers and artists now listed and an active audience on Instagram.
The Directory is intended to be comprehensive and covers a wide range of disciplines, there is no barrier to inclusion with free standard listings for makers/artists living or working in the area, and is an open resource for anyone to use. Users are able to search by discipline, location and service. It also has searchable tags for those that offer repairs, workshops, and children’s classes, and take commissions.
The People’s Park for Nature (PPN)
The People’s Park for Nature (PPN) is seeking to build a network of interconnected green and blue spaces managed by or for local communities to restore nature and foster a deeper connection with it. Members of the PPN sign a charter to signal their commitment to connect with people, share land and restore the wild, benefitting from access to expert advice, community events, training courses and more.
It aims to incorporate a patchwork of spaces, including community and privately owned land, nature reserves, farmland, playing fields, gardens, ponds, office rooftops and allotments, all committed to collective values of nature restoration and community engagement.
By reintroducing native species, restoring natural processes, and healing landscapes, the PPN aims to foster resilient habitats that support wildlife, improve water quality, and combat climate change.
We look forward to collaborating with all three organisations on projects and events, supporting their work and drawing on their expertise. Read about all Lewes Climate Hub’s partner groups here.
