Urge MPs to support the Climate and Nature Bill
The critical Climate and Nature (CAN) Bill is scheduled to get its second reading in Parliament on Friday 24 January. Well over 100 MPs from across the political spectrum have confirmed they will vote for it – but pressure needs to be kept up to ensure the Bill can progress to its next stage.
Lewes MP James MacCleary has pledged to support the CAN Bill. But it’s vital to urge friends, family and colleagues in other constituencies to press their MP to follow suit – and ensure all MPs supporting the Bill do turn up on the day to vote.
At least 102 MPs need to be present to vote for the CAN Bill at its second reading to ensure that it can progress to the next (committee) stage, according to the Zero Hour campaigning group. So please keep urging MPs to be there and pledge their support.

What is the Climate and Nature Bill?
The Bill is the only proposed legislation before the UK Parliament that ensures a comprehensive and joined-up approach to the climate and nature emergency. If made law the CAN Bill would ensure that the UK:
- Creates a joined-up plan—the crises in climate and nature are deeply intertwined, requiring a plan that considers both together
- Cuts emissions in line with a target of keeping global warming within the 2015 agreed target of 1.5°C
- Not only halts, but also reverses the decline in nature, setting nature measurably on the path to recovery by 2030.
