Talk: Defending the right to protest
Thursday 18 June, 7pm-9pm, Lewes Climate Hub, 32 High Street, Lewes, BN7 2LU, FREE
New clauses in the Crime and Policing Bill place yet more severe restrictions on our right to peaceful protest, despite history showing it to be one of the most powerful tools we have to change society for the better. Stuart Chadwick of Greenpeace explores what needs to happen now to revoke this repressive legislation.
Many rights we take for granted were hard fought for by people standing up for what they felt were right, but the right to protest itself is now under attack in the UK from a wave of new legislation.
In this session we’ll discuss why protesting is so important, what the new legislation means and how we can continue to speak up, when democracy itself is at risk. There may have never been a more important fight for our rights than this.
