Hub Food Festival: Making the most of our food

Saturday 7th October – 28th October, 11am – 3pm, Lewes Climate Hub, Lewes House, 32 High Street, BN7 2LU (and other venues)

Join Lewes Climate Hub for a month of talks, tastings, film and workshops, celebrating local food and exploring how everyone can get access to food that’s good for us – and good for the planet.

The whole season will include displays in the Hub all about local food growers to support and local food initiatives to get involved in. Plus the following special events (all at Lewes Climate Hub unless otherwise indicated)

Share your surplus!

Throughout the Food Festival, you’re free to drop off your surplus garden produce at the Hub for sharing at Lewes Community Fridge. Donated apples will be used by Lewes District Food Partnership.

Saturday 7th October, 1pm-3pm
Film: Eating Our Way to Extinction (1hr 21 mins)
Followed by discussion  

Eating Our Way to Extinction takes audiences on a cinematic journey around the world looking at the massive impact of current food production on our planet and what we can do to change it.

Confronting and entertaining, this documentary narrated by Kate Winslet allows audiences to question their everyday choices.


Saturday 14th October, 1pm-2.30pm
Talk: Soil, Food & Gut Health
Daphne Lambert, Greencuisine Trust 

We all know that the food we eat affects our health, but how significant is the way it was grown and cooked? Join Daphne Lambert of Greencuisine Trust for a fascinating talk on nourishing food and the connections between soil, food and gut health and immunity.

Throughout her talk, Daphne will enliven your palette with tastings made from local vegetables grown by Ashurst Organics


Wednesday 18th October, 12pm-2.30pm, £5 suggested donation
Fermented Food workshop with Karola
Christ Church, Prince Edwards Road, Lewes, BN7 1BL
Making your own fermented foods is one of the simplest things you can do to improve your health – and is one of the oldest food preservation techniques. At this afternoon with Karola of FareShare Sussex, have a go at making your own kimchi and sauerkraut, or a jar of seasonal fermented vegetables from a choice of locally grown seasonal produce and spices. Pop-up Exhibition: Feeling the Pinch: Have Your Say
As part of Lewes District Food Partnership’s ‘Feeling the Pinch: Have Your Say’ project, an exhibition of stories and voices of Lewes District residents who have experienced food insecurity through the Cost-of-Living Crisis.

Talk: Feeling the Pinch: Have Your Say
Ruby Makepeace Somerville, Coordinator of Lewes District Food Partnership, talks about the project to put lived-experiences centre stage when we discuss issues of food security, and challenging misconceptions and raising awareness of food poverty in Lewes District.

The Feeling the Pinch: Have Your Say pop-up-exhibition. Throughout the day, Lewes Community Fridge users can also pick up a free Supper Pantry Pack containing recipes and key ingredients to make a delicious seasonal meal.
