Exhibition: Special Trees of Lewes
Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 September, 10am-5pm, Lewes Climate Hub, 32 High Street, BN7 2LU, FREE
Residents of Lewes have shared photographs of their favourite trees and explained what each tree means to them. Plus, learn about the ‘Rights of our Trees’ initiative to help ensure that all of Lewes’ trees are treated with respect and care.
Did you know that Lewes is an arboretum town, one of only two in the country?
The Lewes Urban Arboretum team is celebrating this exceptional status at Lewes Climate Hub in September with an exhibition of “Special Trees” in Lewes as part of the Heritage Open Days events across the town.
Residents of Lewes have shared marvellous photographs of their favourite trees and explained what makes each tree special to them.
The displays will include information about the “Rights of our Trees” (ROOTs) initiative – a partnership between Lewes Urban Arboretum, the Railway Land Nature Reserve, Lewes Climate Hub, Lewes Town Council, the Town Ranger, and representatives from the SDNP and the Environmental Law Foundation. The ROOTs group was formed to prepare a proposal that Lewes Town Council adopt a Rights of Trees strategy so that all of our special trees can be treated with respect and care.
Photograph shows the Copper Beech outside Trinity South Malling Church. Chris Burt loves this tree “because it is magnificent”.
