Join the march of the GIANT LETTERS to County Hall
Tuesday 6 February, 8.15am, outside Lewes Train Station
Join Divest East Sussex and other groups in a march to County Hall to send a powerful message to East Sussex County Council to support its declaration of a climate emergency four years ago by divesting out of fossil fuels.
‘It’s crazy that our banks and our pensions are investing in fossil fuel, when these are the very things that are jeopardising the future that we are saving for.’ – David Attenborough
It’s now more than four years since East Sussex County Council (ESCC) declared a climate emergency, writes Gabriel Carlyle of Divest East Sussex.
Yet today the East Sussex Pension Fund (which ESCC administers) is still investing tens of millions of pounds of local people’s pensions in the fossil fuel companies that are driving the climate crisis.
By clinging on to these remaining investments in fossil fuels, ESCC is providing a fig-leaf for these companies’ ongoing attempts to block effective climate action and missing a huge opportunity to show real leadership on the climate crisis.
In February, the East Sussex Pension Fund will vote on whether to divest from fossil fuels.
Join Divest East Sussex and others at County Hall on Tuesday 6 February – the last ESCC meeting before the vote – to help send a powerful message to the decision-makers: it’s TIME TO DIVEST!
